To complement your studies and to provide memorable and rewarding opportunities we provide a comprehensive programme of study trips and visits as well as some special sixth form events for you to take part in.
At Outwood Grange Academy our students are not simply given lessons in examination subjects, but are taught how to undertake different types of study; how to organise their time effectively; how to find out about and apply for courses in higher education or jobs and how to present themselves at interview. We also offer a varied enrichment programme with work experience, community experience as well as the Extended Project Qualification as a key part of our wider curriculum.
We have planned our curriculum to respond to national changes in 16-19 education with the aim of increasing breadth and flexibility of study. We are keen to encourage young people to continue with their studies and there has never been a better time to do this at Outwood Grange Academy.
Art & Photography Gallery Visits
We have lots of opportunities to look at the latest contemporary art and photography. In addition, during the Autumn term we go to London, and in the Spring term we go to Manchester.
London Law Trip
As an A Level Law trip we take our students to the Supreme Court in London. The Supreme Court was a fantastic experience for both staff and students. We had a tour of the Court rooms and were told all about the exciting cases that have been heard within the Court. Students had the opportunity to ask questions and take photographs of their surroundings. The Supreme Court also had its own Law museum that we enjoyed as this included looking at the history of the Legal system and how it has developed. Whilst in London we also managed to have a look at the top tourist attractions including Covent Garden, Trafalgar Square, Buckingham Palace and Oxford Street. It was a privilege for us to visit such an important Court of Law and very beneficial to the students. We have also been lucky enough to run trips to Parliament to see how Laws are made as well as the Royal Courts of Justice.
Synthesising Paracetamol at Leeds University
Part of our annual trip to Leeds University - a number of our students got to experience synthesising paracetamol. We used many of the techniques we learnt about during the year to make and purify paracetamol, and then we had the chance to prove how pure our drugs were. We had a really good day out of school, rated 10/10 by some students. On average, students rated the trip 8.7/10 across a range of criteria, like how enjoyable, interesting and educational they found the trip to be.
National Science and Engineering Competition
Open to all Post 16 students, our debate society offers opportunities for anyone with an interest in debating to foster a talent for public speaking. Students are able to take part in national competitions, such as Debate Matters and the Oxford and Cambridge Debate Society Competitions, and to also enjoy fun debates with like minded students. Students debate a range of topical issues such as the political structure of the United Kingdom to the application of feminism in today’s world. Each session is designed to develop the skills suitable to succeed in any workplace or career. Suitable for all, weekly debates cultivate and advance debating skills that give our students the edge in job interviews, dissertations and UCAS applications.
On top of all of this, our Post-16 students have participated in international trips (to CERN and Peru) and a whole range of other trips and experiences!
